Have teachers waited long enough for change?

It seems that the more we learn about teaching industry, the more we find out how underpaid, overworked and unappreciated teachers really are. We have been hearing of teacher strikes and we should support them. The system is indeed broken. Would you work for an employer if you had to get laid off and have to reapply for a job? How can we expect teachers to come in day in and out to teach our kids when they don’t have job security?

According to a Mercury news article, the Bay Area has fewer layoff notices than expected but counter that with how many schools have closed, the increase in class size and how many teachers have lost their jobs, the low numbers are not something to be happy about.

If we are to fix the broken system, we cannot wait years, it needs to happen much faster than that. We cannot expect teachers to perform, kids to excel with a system that is 50 plus years old. That is like expecting a race driver to win a race with a rusty car that is on its last days.

Kaiser broker referral needed

I’m helping a contact who wants to connect with a Kaiser medical insurance broker. He is in current need of insurance to cover his family but Kaiser does not offer family plans in California. He is currently being covered under cobra and the rates through the roof. If anyone knows a broker out there, have them send me a DM or comment below.

Thanks!

Met with Celine, owner and Lead Event Designer of 99 Red Balloons, a local Bay Area personal party planner.

When I first heard of 99 Red Balloons, I was not sure of their services. I decided to schedule a one on one with the owner and we had a great chat.

Here is my interview with her:

@bayareasource: What is 99 Red Balloons and what does it provide?

Celine: 99 Red Balloons provides a wide range of event planning services for your personal parties and professional events.

@bayareasource: How long have you been in business?

Celine: I have been in business for about two years. After a long journey in communications and marketing, I decided to follow my dream to start my own business.

@bayareasource: What makes your business unique?

Celine: I would have to say it is my interest in wanting to help people, listening to them and truly bringing to life the event that they have in mind. Understanding the needs and paying attention to what my customers envision, that’s really how I approach event planning. It is a great feeling to create events where clients are having fun at their own party.

@bayaresource: What does your service include?

Celine: I always start with asking a lot of questions to understanding my client’s needs and the overall feel that they want to create. My services include creating and managing budgets, overall event design, working with catering companies and other vendors, running a timely schedule for events where time is of the essence. I’m involved in every aspect of the event, from start to finish. No event is too small or big, if you dream it, 99 Red Balloons is your solution.

San Carlos Planning Commission still undecided on approving the expansion of The Carlos Club

The Planning Commission needs more information on noise, walkways and exits before they can approve expansion planned for March 5th of this year. There aren’t many clubs in the peninsula and The Carlos Club could actually be a good source of business if planned right. Think business mixers, locals could have a place to spend locally and eat near by if they get hungry.
